Washing:
The preferred method for hand painted glassware is hand washing to prolong the bright colors. If using the dishwasher put the glassware in the top rack and not touching any other items.
Use care in handling glassware. Most breakage
occurs during the cleaning process.
Rinse all
glassware as soon as possible after use.
Never put cold glasses into a warm dishwasher
-- avoid thermal shock.
Do not soak hand painted glassware.
Do not stack warm glasses immediately after washing,
as they may stick together. If you have two glasses
stuck together put the bottom glass in warm water
and fill the top glass with cool water. The bottom
one will expand and the top one contract.
Dullness:
It is best to rinse milk and milk products glasses
with cold water before they are placed in the
dishwasher to prevent proteins from sticking and
dulling the glassware.
The dullness of glassware is caused by hard water.
Use a different dishwashing detergent brand or
use one of the commercial hard water additives.
Serving:
Pour water into crystal goblets before adding
ice.
Do not use beer glasses for juices, soft drinks
etc., as sugar coats the inside of glass, affecting
the carbonation of the beer.
When serving hot drinks, use glasses of an even
thickness. Ensure the glass is not cold before
pouring in a hot liquid.
Never place a hot drink
glass on a cold surface because the difference
in temperature may cause the glass to shatter
Never use glass as an ice scoop as glasses can
easily chip or break.
Misc.
Stemmed goblets should be stored in tall partitioned
padded cases to prevent chipping as should all
good crystal not on display.
It is best to hand wash all glassware that has
gold accents to prevent tarnishing and dullness
from the dishwashing detergents.
Stubborn stains on flower vases: Pour detergent
solution into the vase and soak. For really stubborn
stains, use a denture cleaning tablet and let
soak over night. |
